As we have for the last few years, we plan to take the Automobile Tour of Picketwire Canyon in the Comanche Grasslands south of La Junta on a Saturday in October.  This is a guided tour of the canyon (the trail is Group 1 easy), dinosaur tracks next to the Purgatoire River, and the ruins of old settlements in the area; we may also see large but harmless tarantulas on the roads, as it will be the late stages of their annual migration.  Forest Service provides the guide, and there is a cost for the all-day tour, as well as a limited number of tickets (we cannot reserve a block for the club; they are first come, first served).
