XRRA Trip Report 2008
This year the club decided to sponsor a trip to the local eXtreme Rock Racing Association (XRRA) race in Colorado Springs. XRRA Rock Racing is the most Xtreme Off-Road racing action ever witnessed. A competitor has to stay within the confines of the course and the only judge is the stopwatch. Just straight forward timed runs. The action is fast paced and the atmosphere is all sportsmanship. Though it is a race against time, sometimes the real challenge is to finish the course. At the end of the day, seconds make the difference. It amounts to the difference between the shift of the clutch or the finesse of the throttle. A driver's ability to make a split second decision determines the outcome. Racers/Drivers must rely on skill and picking the right line rather than simply throttling through. Drive too aggressively and you may end up cage down. The wide-open action is as much fun for the spectators as it is for the drivers. The XRRA races were great! We had 11 people show up for the 4 Wheel Parts breakfast at 8:00AM. We had a lot to choose from: coffee, orange drink, water, and a variety of cinnamon rolls and pastries. The best part of the breakfast was that the store had a drawing and all of us received free tickets for the races. Thanks again to 4 Wheel Parts for their enthusiastic support of the club. There were 16 members of the club at the race with coolers, lawn chairs, umbrellas and sun screen.
We had a great day watching the races. They raced 4 times around the course, so there was lots of action throughout the day. There was plenty of throttle, smoke, and chaos on each of the different runs. The rock buggies are very capable, but the local track was very challenging even for these rigs. Thank God, there were no major injuries, so it was a great day for everyone. Thanks to everyone who came for the XRRA races and supporting Grip or Tip Offroad's team.
A big Thank You goes to 4 Wheel Parts for the free tickets to these exciting races.
