Mt Blanca Trip Report 2008

We departed the Safeway at 2:15 pm and headed out with just two vehicles, Ben and Jake Boggan and myself, with Pete Johns and his son Zach meeting us at the trailhead/camp spot. After I made a quick detour through Canon City to pick up my daughter Stephanie and the tow rig trying to overheat pulling the Jeep in the 100 degree weather we arrived at the camp spot.

Ben and Jake already had their tent setup and were relaxing in the much cooler weather along with a group of wheelers from Denver. Pete and Zach arrived and setup their tent and after some dinner and entertaining talk around the campfire we all settled in for the night.

We pulled out at 9:00 am with three vehicles and what turned out to be a directors run headed up the trail with the group from Denver ahead of us. After some incredible views we arrived at Jaws 1 (Da Dum) and proceeded over the obstacle with no issues to Jaws 2 (Da Dum, Da Dum) and although we have all done this obstacle before the memorial plaque next to the obstacle makes you think twice about your line. Up and over and we proceeded to Jaws 3 (Da Dum, Da Dum, Da Dum). We watched the group in front of us play on the obstacle and saw one of the new four door Wrangler JKs make it up.

After Jaws 3 we proceeded to Lake Como where we had lunch and went for a hike around the Lake. The water was so clear you could see the fish swimming around. After a quick vote we decided not to go up to the upper lake and proceeded back down the mountain . The views on the way back down were incredible and breathtaking. It was a great day and no one was bitten.
