Boulder Area Trip Report 2008
Boulder Camping trip – Middle St. Vrain Road, Coney Flats, Caribou Creek, Eldorado Mountain.
There was only the Robson’s and Pam that met at the truck stop, to head up for camping on Friday night. The Johns family met us at the camp site. We were joined Saturday morning by Mitch and Teresa Hamilton at the campsite, and Howard and Vicki Kingry at the trail head of Middle St. Vrain. There were 5 vehicles total.
The trip went well, despite there being a lot of traffic on the trail. The weather and fellowship was wonderful. It clouded over to cool things off but it never rained. Alyssa Johns and Gabrielle Robson had a great time playing in the pond at the top of Coney Flats – burrrrrrr. The Hamilton’s and Kingry’s headed back home Saturday. Pam, Robson’s and Johns’ stayed at the campsite Saturday night… unfortunately due to the fire ban we could not have a campfire, but all was still wonderful to camp out in this area. It is a beautiful area.
Sunday morning the Johns family headed back home to fulfill their Camp Id-Ra-Ha-Je responsibilities for parking. Robson’s and Pam headed up Caribou Creek, even though this trail had a lot of traffic on this day as well. The trail was wet and muddy in spots… Pam had fun going through the puddles and the mud accented the color of her jeep. We turned off onto Eldorado Mountain and were able to make it all the way through. When we pre-ran the trails July 5th there was a large snow drift on Eldorado Mountain that made the trail impassable. We had lunch at the top of the trail and headed down the back side to the town of Eldora. The back side is more difficult with a narrow shelf road with off camber turns. It was a wonderful weekend and no breakage or body damage, just mud.
This is definitely a trip for the calendar next year.
