Kids for Christmas Trip Report 2008
The Annual Parade for the "CHRISTMAS FOR KIDS" progream was held on Saturday, December 6, starting from the area of Briargate & Academy around 10:00 A.M. Nearly a hundred Jeeps, Broncos, Toyotas, Land Rovers, and many other four wheel drive vehicles lined up with Christmas Presents to take to the Department of Health Services for needy and underprivileged children.
More than a dozen police mounted on Motorcycles were our escorts. It felt a little odd running through all the red lights with police watching at every corner, even though they were there with lights flashing to hold back all the traffic! Many of the vehicles were decorated for this parade and ready to show off. There were wreaths, garland, figures of Santa Claus and reindeer, special holiday lighting and antlers, Rudolph's big and shiny nose, and lots and lots of smiles with waving to the spectators along the way.
An entire host of greeters from DHS were waiting to receive us, accept the more than 250 gifts that we brought, and announced over a PA System how much they appreciated what we've done annually for the past 13 years. The "weather outside" was perfect, the fellowship was great, and the day was a total success for all of us. A number of Club Directors and Members participated and agreed that it was a blessed event once again!
