China Wall 2010 Trip Report
TRIP REPORT FOR: MAY 8, 2009 - UNIFIED TRIP TO CHINA WALL
Saturday, May 8, 2010, turned out to be an ideal day for four wheeling up into the Rocky Mountains to a Trail System called China Wall. This natural phenomenon is named such on local maps. This trail head is reached by heading west on Hwy. 24 out of Colorado Springs, through Lake George, across the South Platte River, turn right on Tarryall Road and head north. About 12 miles further on this road a large ridge several hundred feet high runs parallel to the road on the right or east side, called China Wall. The U. S. Forest Service has all the trails well marked and numbered.
This Group 1 trail ride had 31 vehicles for the day in a large assorted variety of brands, colors, various stages of build ups, ages, and driver experience. We stopped early on the trail and took time to describe the details of the trip and what to expect in terms of obstacles and challenges. Many folk then began to air down and to disconnect. We switched into 4 wheel low immediately and began the climb up China Wall. Some of the beginning obstacles have been changed to make them easier for less experienced drivers, to our dismay. FOR WE LOVE THE CHALLENGES!!! After encountering a number of challenges, some of which we had to meet, and others we chose to take, we arrived at the Tarryall River for our lunch break.
We had a group prayer, set up our folding camp chairs, let the several dogs play in the river, and ate our lunch. We had a wonderful time of fellowship, while many of us chose to sit directly in the sun, and others tried the shade. Rather than taking the entire trip back the same way we came in, we chose to take an alternate route out which included not only new scenery, but some variety of easy challenges on the way. Getting back to the paved Tarryall Road, many stopped first to air back up and reconnect, while most others hit the road to head on back home. We were off China Wall by at least 3:00 p.m., having had another awesome day on the trail together!
