Metberry Gulch 2009 Trip Report
TRIP REPORT FOR: APRIL 25, 2009 - METBERRY GULCH
There were 25 vehicles total on this scenic trip down to the South Platte River via Metberry Gulch. Although the Hayman Fire Area was still an obvious scar, the new growth is coming slowly back. There is an altitude drop of nearly 2000 feet on the descent from Cedar Mountain Road at 9000 feet, to the bottom at the river at about 7000 feet. There are several obstacles which caused some mild concern, including Chicken Scratch Hill and the steep granite slab with a slick coating of sand sprinkled on it. But all made it without additional help.
We had a fun time at the river eating lunch, some going fishing, some hiking, some just relaxing, and others needing to head back home quite soon. It was considered by all to be a highly successful day!
