Bill Moore Lake 2009 Trip Report

TRIP REPORT FOR:  AUGUST 22, 2009 - Bill Moore Lake

The weather was perfect for our 10 vehicles to proceed up to the Denver area, finding the little town of Empire out west on Hwy. I-70. We approached the trailhead nearby, and  seeing that it was fairly crowded, we still managed to squeeze in to air down and disconnect.

The trail up to Bill Moore Lake is quite challenging at times, but always offers a go-around when we needed it for several of our vehicles. The area is quite scenic and many pictures were being taken by all of our group. We sat up our chairs in a circle near the lake for our picnic lunch at noon time. More pictures were then taken after lunch with some of our younger children playing at the lake and wading in the water. Someone had abandoned the pickup truck that you see in the pictures, which had rolled several times, and we found it on the way down.

Several of us tried the Empire Loop for the longer way down, and found out it was much better suited for ATVs than Jeeps and full size vehicles, etc., for it was extremely narrow at times.  A number of the group stopped in Empire at the Dairy King for a juicy hamburger and a coke before we all hit the highway for the final trip home.

It was a most successful day overall, with no problems or injuries of any kind, and lots of fellowship and pictures taken.
